Campaign for the Arts (charity 1079313, company 03853716, 138 Kingsland High Street, London E8 2NS) runs research so that real experiences – including young people’s – shape arts policy. Why is this a separate notice?
Our published Privacy Policy dates from October 2022, before our research programme existed. Rather than rush changes to the whole policy, we’ve adopted this dedicated notice now, so research participants have complete information from day one. A comprehensively revised Privacy Policy is completing approval and is planned for adoption in October 2026; when it takes effect, this notice will continue as part of its research section – nothing participants have been told will change.
Each project explains itself
Every research project has its own participant information sheet, consent forms and handouts. Those documents say exactly what that project collects, how any recording and transcription works, when things are deleted, and how to change your mind. Projects differ – some record audio and some don’t; some involve photos to document creative outputs; some invite optional demographic questions and some don’t – so each project’s own documents are the single source of truth for it.
One thing is constant across every project: if something a participant tells us suggests that they, or someone else, may be at risk of harm, we will share it with relevant people who can help keep them safe. Every project’s materials say this plainly too.
The legal bit
Legal bases: your consent (taking part; explicit consent for any optional sensitive demographic answers, which are always reported only as statistics). Safeguarding sharing relies on separate legal provisions that allow protecting people at risk, supported by our written safeguards. Research data lives in our restricted Google Workspace; Google’s UK-GDPR data-processing terms apply, and processing can happen outside the UK under safeguards UK law approves – ask us for details. Where a project uses an AI tool — for example to transcribe recordings — it runs on business terms that stop our data being used to train the provider’s models, and we never agree to research data being used for AI training.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to what we do with it, and withdraw consent at any time – email hello@campaignforthearts.org. It’s normally free and we’ll respond within one month. If something’s gone wrong, tell us: we’ll acknowledge your complaint within 30 days, look into it properly, and tell you the outcome – and you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at any time (ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, 0303 123 1113, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow SK9 5AF).
