It comes after Campaign for the Arts director Jack Gamble called engagement a “cause for hope” despite a report suggesting the UK arts sector is “running on empty” when it comes to funding, educational opportunity, and earnings.

At a launch event for Campaign for the Arts’ report into the state of the UK’s arts and culture sector, director and chief executive of the group Jack Gamble had suggested such widespread engagement was reason for optimism – despite cuts to funding persisting on both a national and local level.

Speaking at the House of Lords on July 22, Gamble said: “Engagement is a cause for hope. People love the arts in this country. Tens of millions of us engage with the arts each and every year.”
