In a speech reacting to findings by the Campaign for the Arts and University of Warwick, which revealed the UK arts sector receives one of the lowest levels of government spending on arts and culture in Europe, Bryant said the Labour administration “values” the creative industries.
He also encouraged a reprioritisation of creativity in education, which would move an emphasis on STEM subjects – science, technology, engineering and mathematics – to STEAM.
Bryant vowed: “I believe every single child in this country must have a good quality creative education. Arts, music, dance, theatre, absolutely everything. And that’s what we’re determined to do […] It’s taking it from STEM to STEAM and that’s what we’re determined to do as a government over the years to come.”
