Director of Campaign for the Arts Jack Gamble argued that the “crisis” was not over and that the Covid-19 pandemic had launched the theatre and arts sectors into a “perfect storm”. Gamble said: “The truth is that a number of problems that were there before the pandemic, for example a decline in investment and reforms to education, haven’t gone away and some have got worse.”
Gamble called cuts to local authorities a “huge worry” and argued that it should worry “all of us, not just those of us in the arts sector”. He called for future discussions to highlight theatre’s positive impact on health and well-being for local communities.
