Gender gap at GCSE falls to lowest level since 2000

Jack Gamble, director at the Campaign for the Arts, a charity, said the increase in music entries did not offset a significant longer-term decline across the arts caused by funding pressures and the exclusion of these subjects from school performance metrics.

“It’s not only bad for the young people missing out on the benefits of arts education, but also for the future of the UK’s creative industries,” he added.
