The increase follows months of campaigning, which included protestors rallying outside Holyrood and nearly 18,000 people signing a petition organised by grassroots organisation Campaign for the Arts that demanded the Scottish government take steps towards its 2023 promise to increase culture spending by £100 million by 2028/29.
Jack Gamble, director of Campaign for the Arts, said: “This significant increase in cultural investment is extremely welcome. Thousands of people across Scotland joined Campaign for the Arts to urge the Scottish government to support artists and cultural organisations at this critical time. We are delighted that ministers have listened.”
