Cultural legislation ‘not necessarily required’, Robertson tells hustings

When asked whether dedicated legislation was required to provide a framework for the future of culture at a hustings ahead of the May election, Angus Robertson said the Scottish National Party (SNP) is “committed to the mainstreaming of the arts across government” but a culture act is “not necessarily required”.

The debate, which was livestreamed by Campaign for the Arts, also covered topics such as engaging more with Europe’s culture sector, the importance of placemaking in rural communities and potential business rates reform for hospitality venues.
