In September, Samuel West featured on the podcast ‘To Be or Not to Be: Lockdown Shakespeare‘ to discuss his experiences of playing Hamlet.
However, West also discussed the threat theatres are currently facing, which has become even more severe with the start of a second lockdown in England last week:
“Britain will be alot less prosperous because we are very good at this stuff [theatre]…does your MP know that you like the theatre? does your MP know that you value some tiny bit of your taxes being spent on your local arts centre?”
You can watch a short video that was made by the Lockdown Shakespeare podcast here:
You can also listen to the whole podcast here.
And you can support the arts during the pandemic via a variety of benevolent funds that have been set up:
- Sam Mendes’ Theatre Artists Fund
- Olivia Colman and Phoebe Waller Bridge’s Theatre Community Fund
- The Actors Benevolent Fund (founded 1882)
